‘The Last’ by Giulia Astori.
A visual journey into the horrors of gender-based violence.
Directed by Giulia Astori, edited by me. In this art collaboration between Giulia Astori (MRes, University of Groningen) and myself, I helped bring to life Giulia's ambitious creative vision of producing a performance art video entirely based on 'The Resounding Manifesto' that she wrote earlier on this year. Our goal was to create a visual experience that could affectively communicate her feelings on gender-based violence.
Following the tragic news of the femicide of the young student Giulia Cecchettin in Padua, Italy, who died only days before her graduation at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, a call for more protection for women resounded across the country. Her death triggered major protests, and another opportunity to open up a conversation around violence against women. In addition to my role as editor, I assisted with the organization of pre-production and post-production materials, streamlining the process to ensure smooth collaboration and efficient workflows.Key contributions:
EDITING
I applied a careful editorial structure to enhance the rhythm and intensity of the performance, ensuring that each cut felt purposeful and contributed to a seamless narrative flow.
CONCEPT + PREPRODUCTION
With an emphasis on visual continuity, I executed transitions that supported the emotional arc of the performance.MOTION DESIGN
By identifying key emotional beats and using them as anchors, I shaped the edit to heighten the viewer's connection with the performance.
